All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ADELAIDE DARDEN HOWARD BAILEY Mrs. Adelaide Darden Bailey, 87, widow of Joseph Edward Bailey, died at the home in Newsoms of her son, Henry E. Bailey, at 5:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, July 5, after an illness of five years duration. Mrs. Bailey was the daughter of the late Col. Henry Shields Howard and Josephine Darden Howard of York County. An active member of the Newsoms Methodist Church, she was for many years treasurer of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the church. Besides her son she is survived by two grandchildren, Mrs. Dennis A. Wilson of Norfolk and Miss Betty Bailey, a student at Longwood College, Farmville, and a great-grandson, Gerald Edward Wilson of Norfolk. Funeral rites for Mrs. Bailey will be conducted at 4 o’clock this afternoon (Friday) at the Newsoms Methodist Church by her pastor, Rev. R.B. Moore, assisted by Rev. R.L. Chadwick. Interment will be in the Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers will be R.B. Story, Jr., J. Leroy Dail, George Prince, James D. Darden, R.N. Darden, Jr., E. Beale Carter, John B. Darden and L.M. Manry.
