All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BENJAMIN THOMAS BELL Funeral services for Benjamin Thomas Bell, 83, who died Saturday, February 9, in a Richmond hospital were conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield. Officiating ministers were Rev. L.P. Bland and Rev. J.E. McCauley. Mrs. W.C. Seeley Jr., sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" during the service. Mr. Bell, a retired farmer of the Wakefield community, was a native of Southampton county, the son of the late William A. and Harriett Baker Bell. He was the husband of Mrs. May Simmons Bell of Wakefield, and was a member of the Wakefield Methodist Church. In additon to his wife, Mr. Bell is survived by one son, John Marion Bell of Newport News; two daughters, Mrs. Lewter Rawlings of Waverly and Mrs. Thomas O. Simmons, Sr., of Jarratt; one step-son, T.E. Reese of Wakefield; four step-daughters, Mrs. Milton Shufelt of Richmond and Mrs. Leon Matthews, Mrs. E.O. Whitmore and Miss Annie Reese, all of Jarratt; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Bell family cemetery at Elm Grove near Sebrell. Active pallbearers were Ryland Whitehead, Elmo Pittman, George Vick, Jr., Hinson Parker, Hubert Beale, Oscar Parker, Edward Laine and Walter W. Cobb. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers.
