All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CADMUS LAWSON BAILEY Cadmus Lawson Bailey, 40, son of the late L.M. and Mrs. Irene Bailey of Littleton, Sussex County, died at his home in Courtland last Saturday night after a brief illness. He had made his home in Courtland last Saturday night after a brief illness. He had made his home in Courtland for the last 22 years, and for several years had been employed by the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot and Norfolk Ledger Dispatch in the distribution of papers in Eastern Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucye Howell Bailey; two sons, Charles and Billie Bailey, and two daughters, Misses Joyce and Patsy Bailey, all of Courtland; two brothers, L.E. Bailey of Franklin, and G.J. Bailey of Littleton, Va., and one sister, Miss Sue Bailey, of West Chester, Penn. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock with the Rev. A.W. Roten, pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church, of which Mr. Bailey was a member assisted by Ven. Norman E. Taylor of Norfolk, archdeacon of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, officiating. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with a double spray of white lilies, white carnations, Baby's Breath and ferns. During the service, the members of the Men's Bible Class of Courtland M.E. Church, sang "The Old Rugged Cross." The Rev. Mr. Taylor read Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar," at the grave. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Active pallbearers were: Dr. E.F. Reese, Dr. G.H. Quillen, O.L. Burkette, of Franklin, Sidney Vick, O.H. Poates, F.N. Barker, R.G. Edwards and D.C. Magette. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers.
