WALTER BEALE IS LAID TO REST IN LOCAL CEMETERY Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Hart Beale, aged 40, wife of Walter M. Beale, who died in a Norfolk hospital on Thursday, August 19, were held at the home in the Franklin community the following afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Rev. C.P. Cleveland of Lynchburg, a former pastor of the deceased assisted by Rev. L.M. Kanipe, pastor of the Sycamore Baptist Church, conducted the services. Mrs. Beale, the daughter of Mrs. Carrie Murdock Hart and the late James Roswell Hart, was born in Washington, D.C. At the age of two years she moved with her parents back to their ancestral home in the Sunbeam neighborhood, residing there until her marriage to Walter M. Beale of "Elmhurst" in the Franklin community. She was a lifetime member of the Sunbeam Baptist Church. The years spent at "Elmhurst" were marked by her unselfish devotion to her home and family. She was truly the "good Samaritan" of the neighborhood, never missing an opportunity to share her time and her means with those less fortunate than herself. The many beautiful floral tributes attested to the esteem in which she was held by her friends and relatives. Surviving are her husband, Walter M. Beale, and her son, Walter M. Beale, Jr., of Franklin; her mother, Mrs. Carrie M. Hart, and one brother, Roswell Hart, of Sunbeam; and a number of relatives. At the funeral the Sycamore choir sang tow of Mrs. Beale’s favorite hymns, "Safe In the Arms of Jesus," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers included Walter Luther Young, George O. Watkins, W.R. Atkinson, Sr., V.K. Daughter, Jr., Tyler Edwards, J. Fenton Matthews, C.C. Vaughan, 3rd, and Hunter Darden. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. Bryant, Mrs. Roy R. Stewart, Mrs. A. Bernard Hart, Miss Blanche Bryant and Miss Mamie Hart, all of Boykins; Mr. and Mrs. J. Bowden Hundley of Portsmouth; Rev. Carroll H. Beale of Monroe; Mrs. C.L. Wood of Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. J.K.
