Elsie was born to Charles Watts Dinsmore and Mary Helen Palestine Redwine Dinsmore in Duffield, Virginia on the southern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She never forgot her Virginia heritage. Elsie was a WWII bride and moved to Elnora, Indiana in 1944. She remained an Elnora resident until 1962 when she moved back to Virginia. In 1964, she married Allen Garland Beale, and lived happily outside of Franklin, Virginia. They owned the Shell Service Station in Franklin and later the Beale Burger House near Ivor. Elsie was a protective and affectionate mother, but she topped that by being a fantastic grandmother. Whenever her out of state grandchildren came for visits, there always seem to be a kitten for them to play with. Elsie always made them feel grown up, and let them "help" in the Beale Burger House for tips. She delighted in teaching the grandchildren the old fashioned ways in which she grew up. Her teenage son, Robert Keith Long, was killed in a major airline crash in 1974. Elsie never fully recovered from her bereavement. She lost most of her vision and independence in 1991, and reluctantly moved to Indianapolis. Until dementia robbed her of most memories, Elsie routinely reminded her family "everything was better in Virginia." Elsie’s last verbal memories were of her loving daddy who kept her after her mother died in childbirth and of those beloved Blue Ridge Mountains. Elsie was preceded in death by her son, Robert Keith Long; husband Garland; and by all 10 of her siblings. Elsie is survived by her children, Linda (Gene) Schulstad of Indianapolis, IN; Johnny Marvin (Judy) Long of Washington, IN; Barry (Heather) Beale of Buckner, KY; step-son, David (Mary) Beale of Simpsonville, SC; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to The Crisis Connection Domestic Violence Service in Jasper, Indiana. Go rest high on that mountain, Mom/Grandma! ****************************************************************************** ELSIE FERN DINSMORE LONG BEALE INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Elsie Fern Dinsmore Long Beale, 93, of Indianapolis, died September 30, 2019.
