Funeral services for Edwin William Beale, Sr., 71, who died Saturday, July 13, in Raiford Memorial Hospital, Franklin, were conducted Monday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. G.C. Crutchfield, pastor of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, and Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, officiated. Mr. Beale, a farmer of the Isle of Wight community, was the husband of Mrs. Eva Gay Beale of Zuni, and the son of the late James and Mrs. Nettie Roberts Beale of Southampton County. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and its missionary circle, and was a former deacon. He was also a member of the Walters Ruritan Club. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Edwin William Beale, Jr., of Franklin; two grandchildren, Edwin W. Beale, 3rd, and James Andrew Beale, both of Franklin; three brothers, Otis Beale of Greensboro, N.C., E.L. Beale of South Norfolk and Guy R. Beale of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Oretha Beale Lefellar of South Norfolk; and nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery, and active pallbearers were S.M. Joyner, Sherman Johnson, Frank Johnson, Taylor Holland, Julian Carr, Jasper Carr, Dr. Henry L. Gardner, Jr., and Lonnie L. Carr.
