All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FANNIE ELSA MATTHEWS BEALE Mrs. Fannie Matthews Beale, 69 years of age, died at her home near Franklin Monday night* after an illness of five months. Mrs. Beale was the daughter of the late William and Mrs. Jane Matthews of Gates County, N.C., and on April 12, 1893, married Walter Lee Beale, who survives her with four daughters, Miss Elsie Beale and Mrs. R.L. Young of Franklin; Mrs. J.K. Gulley of Goldsboro, N.C., and Miss Laura Beale of Exmore; four sons, Walter Beale, Jr., of Franklin; Emory Beale of Holland; Ryland Beale of Courtland, and Carroll Beale of Chowan College, Murfreesboro; two brothers, E.J. and C.C. Matthews, of Charlotte, N.C., 12 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Mrs. Beale’s pastor, the Rev. Floyd P. Davis of Sycamore, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin. Burial was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery here, the active pallbearers being: Roger I., James Irvin, Wesley H. and J.W. Beale, Jr. of Richmond, D.T. Prince, James A. Johnson, J. Edward Howell and W.A. Jones. Honorary bearers were selected from a number of friends of the family.
