Beale died at his home in Clay Street Wednesday after an illness of several years, a man esteemed for his honesty, integrity and fair dealings with his fellow man. He was a native of Southampton County, the son of the late Dred and Mrs. Sallie Beale of Sunbeam, and had spent the greater part of his life in Franklin where he was engaged in farming until the failure of his health. Mr. Beale is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pattie Wills Beale; two sons, Geno Beale of Norfolk and Marvin Beale of Suffolk; two daughters, Mrs. Crawford Scott of Franklin and Mrs. Alwin Combs of Walters, and by several grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Hugh P. Beale and S. Reginald Beale of the Courtland community; three sisters, Mrs. M.B. Edwards of Richmond, Mrs. Annie O’berry of Newsoms and Mrs. Lizzie Porter of Handsom, besides many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock by his Pastor, Rev. Roscoe Jones of High Street M.E. Church, assisted by Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Congregational Christian Church. Burial services were held at Poplar Spring Cemetery, the rites of the Pythian order being observed at the grave. Mr. Beale was a member of High Street M.E. Church, of the R.M. Chandler Bible Class of that church, and of Franklin Lodge No. 51, Knights of Pythias. The pallbearers were: W.T. Pace, W.C. Watson, Harry Steinhardt, J.D. Fowler, Ezra F. Gray, Sam Cutchins, L.E. Bailey and W.O. Bristow.
