All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE MARVIN BEALE Funeral services for George Marvin Beale, 47, who died suddenly on Friday afternoon, August 1, at his home in Suffolk, were conducted at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. Julian S. Hopkins, and Rev. John Boyd, pastor of the Suffolk Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, with Pythian rites at the grave. Pallbearers were J.E. Julian, L.T. and Tony Haslett, William T. Johnson, Richard Nelms, Omar Parker and Elbert Womble. A native of Southampton County, the deceased was the son of Mrs. Pattie Wills Beale of Franklin and the late George Henry Beale. He was educated in the schools of Franklin and at Fork Union Military Academy. Mr. Beale attained considerable prominence as a catcher in amateur baseball, and in recent years had been in demand as an umpire. Surviving are his mother, his wife, Mrs. Dora Sutton Beale of Suffolk; and two sisters, Mrs. Alvah C. Cones of Nansemond County and Mrs. Crawford Scott of Franklin.
