BEALE, FRANKLIN CITIZEN, DEAD AT 62 Julius William Beale, well-known Franklin citizen, died suddenly at his home in North High Street Monday morning, age 62 years. Mr. Beale had been a merchant in Franklin for nearly 40 years, retiring from business in February, 1938, on account of failing health. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Beale of the Franklin community, and was first married to Miss Maggie Vaughan, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Vaughan of this community, who died many years ago. There are three children from this union; Mrs. J.O. Haslett* of Franklin, Mrs. W.J. Blair of Galax, and William Beale, Jr. of Richmond. He later married Miss Belle Thornton of Sussex County who survives him with one son, Thornton Beale, and he is also survived by a large family connection throughout this section. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the Rev. William Bradshaw of the Smithfield Episcopal Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. B.B. Bland of High Street M.E. Church. The active pallbearers were: Claude J. Edwards, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, George H. Parker, Jake Soble, Hunter Darden, M.F. Redford, J. Letcher Eley and R.C. Councill.
