All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES IRVING BEALE Mr. James Irving Beale, Sr., died at his home in South High Street, Franklin, Thursday, April 25, in his sixty-sixth year. Mr. Beale sustained a slight stroke of paralysis about the first of the year and had had several other similar attacks, growing weaker each time until the end. The deceased was a native of Isle of Wight county and had been a prominent business man of Franklin for many years. He organized the Franklin Peanut Company in 1905, enlarging and developing the business until it became one of the town's leading industries and one of the largest establishments of its kind in the peanut belt. He numbered a wide circle of friends throughout this section and was an unusually well-informed man on current affairs, his buiness judgement being highly valued by his associates. He was quiet and unassuming in his life, a kind and indulgent husband and father and a good neighbor. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Liluer L. Beale; by five sons, Roger I., James Chesley and H. Woodfin Beale of Franklin, Cyrus W. Beale of Richmond and James Irving Beale, Jr., U.S. Naval Reserves; two daughters, Mrs. H.W. McCullers of Clayton, N.C., and Miss Liluer Beale of Franklin, and by a sister, Mrs. Caroline Saunders of Nansemond County. His older brother, Mr. Carr Beale, preceded him to the grave March 4, 1918. The funeral services will be conducted from his late residence this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. C.H.
