LELAND EDWIN BEALE

L.E. BEALE, 67, FRANKLIN CIVIC LEADER, DIES

   FRANKLIN - Leland Edwin Beale, 67, civic leader and Baptist churchman, died 
early Tuesday in his home near here after a long illness.

   He was the husband of the late Mrs. Ruby Beaton Beale and a son of Thomas 
Exum Beale and Mrs. Stella Saunders Beale.  He was born in Southampton County.*

   He was clerk and a deacon of Black Creek Baptist Church.  He was a charter 
member of Courtland Ruritan Club and a past president of Sedley Ruritan Club.

   Surviving are two sons, Leland E. Beale, Jr., and Theo E. Beale of 
Franklin, and three grandchildren.

   A funeral service was held in Black Creek Baptist Church Wednesday at 2:30 
p.m. by the Rev. C.L. Gatling, pastor.  Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were Crawley Edwards, Carlton Cutchins, R.H. Powell, Jr., R.J. 
Bartholomew, Handy Moore, and P.O. Duck.
