MILDRED LEA BEALE

   A funeral service for Mrs. Mildred Lea Beale, 44, of Rt. 2, Franklin, was 
held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Ben R. Duffy.

   Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home 
had charge.

   Mrs. Beale died Thursday at 11:30 p.m. in Southampton Memorial Hospital 
after a long illness.

   A native of Albemarle County, she had resided in this area for 20 years, 
and previously resided in Richmond.  She was the wife of Leland E. Beale, Jr. 
and a daughter of Stanley R. Lea and the late Mrs. Mildred Porter Lea.

   She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.  A graduate of Stratford 
College in Danville, Va., she was vice president of Southampton Hospital 
Auxiliary, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Tidewater 
Area Council of the Girl Scouts.

   Besides her husband and father, she is survived by her step-mother, Mrs. 
Donna S. Lea of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Caroline Beale 
of Franklin; a son, Leland E. Beale III of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Ann 
Barbour of Clarksdale, Miss.; and one brother, Stanley R. Lea Jr. of 
Greenville, N.C.
