Blow [sic; Blowe] Mrs. William H. Blow of the community, age 56 years, died Saturday, April 30, at Raiford's Hospital, Sedley, where she had been for about ten days. Mrs. Blow, who had been in poor health for many years, was a Christian woman, a loving mother and wife and a faithful member of Whiteheads Church, ever ready to serve her Master. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, four sons, two grandchildren and several sisters and brothers. She will be missed in her community and her church. Funeral services were conducted at the cemetery here Sunday afternoon by Rev. W.H. Riddick, assisted by Rev. L.W. Kersey of the Baptist Church, in the midst of many sorrowing relatives and friends. D.Cert. 9722 (Jerusalem #8) gives b. 3 Nov 1871. Her father James Elbert BRETT (1834 - 1915) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. H, 41st VA Infantry. Her step-mother (1855 - 1930) applied for a pension 28 Jun 1924 in Southampton Co. Her father left will 23 Oct 1903, proved 16 Dec 1915. (Hertford Co., NC, WB D:373-75) Her father & step-mother are marked in the New Hope Church Site Historic Cemetery, near Como, Hertford Co., NC. Her father ("1833 - 1915") also has a Confederate gravestone in a field just outside Como, NC.
