MILLS BEALE, JR. - Funeral services for Mills Beale, Jr., were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery by Rev. Joe A. French pastor of Union Congregational Christian Church, assisted by Rev. Tucker Humphries, pastor of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Mr. Beale, 49, died Tuesday afternoon, March 26, in Raiford Memorial Hospital after an illness of several months. A lifelong resident and farmer in Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Frances Turner Beale, and a son of the late Mills and Ella Drake Beale of Southampton County. He was a member of Union Congregational Christian Church Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mills Beale, 3rd, and Irving Denson Beale, both of Franklin; two brothers, Irving D. Beale of Richmond and Emmett Beale of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Rena Cobb of Sedley and Mrs. Kate Blythe of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Maurice Cotton, Melvin Cotton, Harvey Lankford, Jr., Edward Blythe, Kelly Blythe, J.A. Surace, L.W. Councill, Sr., and E.B. Radar.
