BEALE, SICK LONG TIME, DIES WEDNESDAY "Prominent Industrialist And Business Man Succumbs After Illness Lasting Nine Years." Roger Irving Beale, 64, president and general manager of the Franklin Peanut Company until ill health forces him to give up business, died Wednesday afternoon in Raiford Memorial Hospital. He had been sick for nine years, most of which time he was confined to his home. The deceased was the son of the late James I. and L. Leora Beale of Isle of Wight County and Franklin. He was educated at Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and after leaving college he entered the peanut business here with his father. Mr. Beale was a member of the Bruner Class of the Franklin Baptist Church and former member of the local Rotary Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josephine Frances Cobb Beale; a son, Roger I. Beale, Jr., of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. R.L. Lewis of Fargo, N.D., and Mrs. Liluer B. Nixon of New York City; two brothers, Cyrus W. Beale of Richmond and James I. Beale, Jr., of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon (Friday) at four o’clock, with Rev. Randolph L. Gregory, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. J.S. Maxey. Burial will be in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. BEALE HELD AT RESIDENCE Funeral services for the late Roger I. Beale, who died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 10, after a period of ill health lasting nine years, were conducted from the residence on South High Street on Friday afternoon at four o’clock. Rev. Randolph L. Gregory, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. J.S. Maxey. A large crowd of friends and acquaintances assembled at the residence to pay a last tribute to a man who was known for his high ideals in public and private affairs, for his scrupulous honesty, and for his unfailing courtesy under all circumstances. Throughout his long illness he was ever solicitous of the welfare of those who had been associates in business and of others with whom he had come in daily contact. Pallbearers were James C. Beale, Jr., Robert Beale, Cy Lewis Beale, and James I. Beale, 3rd, nephews of the deceased, W.C. Coker and Jesse A. Weede, all of Franklin, and Dr. W.D. Hankins and W.W. Miller, Jr., of Johnson City, Tenn. Interment was in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, where the grave was hidden beneath a profusion of floral offerings.
