E. Bailey, a well-known citizen of Southampton county, who was run over and killed by a freight train near Ivor station, on the Norfolk and Western railroad. He attempted to jump from the train while in motion. The body was terribly mangled. R. E. BAILEY, killed 12 Dec 1881, Norfolk & Western RR, near Ivor, "The Staunton (VA) Spectator", Dec. 20, 1881 (Vol. 59, No. 14), p. 4, col. 2 He does not appear in the Southampton Co. Death Records (1853-1890). He does not appear in the 1880 Census for Southampton Co. Perhaps there is a typo in the name.
