Beale of the Black Creek community, died at Raiford Hospital, Franklin, Saturday, June 22, following a brief illness. Mrs. Beale, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Beaton, was born October 2, 1900, and on December 23, 1922 was united in marriage to Leland E. Beale. To this union two children were born, Leland Edwin and Theo Elliott, all of whom survive her. In addition to her husband and two sons she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Beaton; five sisters, Mrs. R.H. Powell of Anacostia, Md., Mrs. George H. Raiford of Victoria, Mrs. P.O. Duck, Jr., of Sedley, Mrs. George Lindsay of Arlington and Miss Wilma Beaton of Franklin; two brothers, Robert L. Beaton of Victoria and Howard H. Beaton of Norfolk; three nieces and three nephews. In early girlhood Mrs. Beale joined Black Creek Baptist Church and until her death was a consistent and active member. Every phase of church work claimed her interest and service. She was a most efficient teacher in the church school. A faithful and energetic worker in the Woman’s Missionary Society, a loyal friend and member of the Baptist Training Union and filed a large place in the worship service of the church. In addition, every movement for the betterment of her community claimed her ready interest and support. She was a woman of unusual abilities and exceptional endowments, of exemplary Christian character and a most pleasing personality. These endeared her to all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted from Black Creek Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock by her pastor, Rev. W.B. Watson, assisted by the Rev. R.P. Welch of Darlington Heights, a former pastor, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin. Music was rendered by a quartet composed of E.K. Brinkley, Paul Nachias, Frank Bunch and Percy Bunch, who sang, "Have Thine Own Way Lord," "Rock of Ages" and "Lord, I’m Coming Home." The casket was covered with a pall of roses and lilies and there were a number of beautiful floral designs. An unusually large number of friends and neighbors attended the service. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Active pallbearers were D.S. Edwards, E.A. Drewry, Arthur Carr, A.E. Drewry, M.H. Lowe, I.D. Drewry, F.B. Welch and C.C. Edwards.
