Woodfin Beale crashed into a freight train partly loaded with logs at the Seaboard crossing of High Street, instantly killing Mr. Beale and painfully, though not seriously, injuring D.R. Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.R. Butler of this town, who was a passenger in Mr. Beale’s car and who is now reported to be doing nicely in Lakeview Hospital, Suffolk, Virginia. Mr. Beale, familiarly known to his many friends in Franklin and the community as "Skinner," was 37 years of age and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Irving Beale of this town. He was a good-hearted young man, devoid of hypocrisy, and was generous hearted towards all mankind and loyal to his friends who were many. Mr. Beale was employed by the Franklin Peanut Company of this town of which his brother, Roger L. Beale, is president and was a veteran of the recent World War and a member of the local post of the American Legion. His casket was draped in a large American flag and his body bearers were: J.F. Bryant, Jr., John Haslet, T.R. Pierce, George Brown, Pat Peters, W.E. Smith, D.T. Prince and G.E. Johnson. Mr. Beale is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Roger I., J. Chesley, J.E. Beale, Jr., of Franklin, Cyrus W. Beale of Richmond, Mrs. R.S. Lewis of Fargo, North Dakota, and Mrs. Liluer Beale Nixon, who is now spending some time traveling in Europe. ****************************************************************************** News of Twenty-five Years Ago August 5, 1927 H.
