He was 35 years old, a carpenter by trade and a good Christian and useful citizen, living a quiet and unassuming life. Moving to Franklin about ten years ago from the Como community in Hertford County, N.C., he married Miss Katie Edwards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Edwards, who survives him, with two children, Herman and Katherine. Mr. Bowles was a consistent member of the Franklin M.E. Church, and the funeral services were conducted from the home in Norfleet Street Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock by his pastor Rev. R.M. Chandier, the interment following in Poplar Spring cemetery. The pallbearers were S.R., W.C. and Emmett Edwards and C.C. Blythe, brothers-in-law of the deceased, R.B. Scott and M.G. Councill.
