SUICIDE OF A SOUTHAMPTONIAN. 

  PETERSBURG, VA., Apr. 12.- The body of John J. Bowles, a prominent citizen 
of Southampton county, and widely known in this state, who had been missing 
for a week, has been found in the woods near his home with a terrible gash 
in his throat and a razor clutched in his hand.  It is supposed that he 
committed suicide on account of financial difficulties.

*Additional information: 

He appears in the 1880 Census (Boykins Dist., e.d. 101, p. 50 fam #520) as a 
   farm laborer, age 27, with wife Bettie (23); adj. Chesterield BOWLS (65).
