BULLS Mrs. Sarah Catherine Bulls, age about 75 years, wife of Milton Bulls, died at her home near Corinth last Thursday morning, January 28, after an illness of several weeks. She was a native of Isle of Wight County [sic*], and a resident of Southampton County for 51 years. In early life she joined Beaver Dam Baptist Church, moving her membership to Millfield Baptist Church after coming to this community to make her home. Miss Sarah Catherine Beale and Milton Bulls were married on January 19, 1887, and would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on January 19, 1937, but owing to the death of their son, G.H. Bulls, on January 13, and the illness of Mrs. Bulls no celebration could be held. To this union were born nine children, two dying in infancy, a son, M.H. Bulls eleven years ago, and one two weeks before her death. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are five children, Mrs. R.E. Carroll and R.E. Bulls of Portsmouth, and R.H. Bulls, A.J. Bulls and Miss Nannie Bulls, who made their home with their parents. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family cemetery, conducted by her Pastor, the Rev. N.F. Jacobs, burial being made in the family cemetery. Members of Millfield choir sang "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye." Active pallbearers were: Henry Branche, Fenton Branche [sic; Branch], Lee Beale, William Joyner, Lloyd Carroll and Rufus Carroll. Honorary bearers were friends of the family. The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and rosebuds and there were many other floral tributes. Sarah Catherine (BEALE; Mrs. Wiley Milton) BULLS, b. Jan 1860, Southampton* Co., d. 28 Jan 1937, at home, near Corinth, interred in the family cemetery*, 30 Jan 1937, donated obit, publication unknown, from the Maggie Eley Duke & Audrey Eloise Duke Butler Collection, posted with Find a Grave Memorial #204395573, by Martha Fontaine Byrum; "Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), Vol. 32, No. 18, Fri., Feb. 5, 1937, p. 1 *Additional information: Site not known (June 2024) to the Southampton County Historical Society {SCHS} Cemetery Project. D.Cert. 1937-2432 (Berlin & Ivor #4) gives buried at home; daughter of Mr. BEALE, b. VA, & unknown; the informant was her son A.J. BULLS. Find a Grave Memorial #204395573 lists Sarah & Milton as buried in the BEALE-SAUNDERS family cemetery on Airport Dr.; however, that seems incorrect. (Cemetery ID: 2489814) Spikes E. & Nancy (EDWARD) BEALE, buried there, did not have a daughter named Sarah or Catherine. Sarah & Milton do not appear on the Isle of Wight County Historical Society {IWCHS} Grave Site Survey Task Force {GSSTF} report #191, although it notes several unmarked interments: http://www.iwchs.com/Cemetery-Reports.html They appear in the 1930 Census - Berlin & Ivor Dist., Southampton Co. - possibly on Round Hill Rd., on Farms 185 & 186, adjacent to Levi P. RAIFORD (d. 1932), who is buried in a RAIFORD family cemetery on Seacock Chapel Rd. SCHS Cemetery Project, Miscellaneous Cemeteries, Vol. 8 (MV-VIII-25): http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/cemeteries/miscvol8.txt Her husband's D.Cert. 1953-2681 (B&I #2) gives buried in the family cemetery, near Ivor. Southampton Co. MB6:136 gives both b. & res. Southampton Co., but does not give their parents; Milton was the son of Henry & Julia (DREWRY) BULLS. I was unable to find anyone named Sallie, Sarah or Catherine in the 1870 or 1880 Census in Southampton or Isle of Wight Cos. Her son George Herbert BUHLS (1890 - 1937) is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by William J.
