While riding alone in a Ford pick-up truck between Courtland and Franklin on Highway 58, en route to his home near Franklin, Charles Matthews Blythe, 59-year-old Southampton County farmer was killed Monday evening about six o’clock when his vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a tree. Dr. T. Addison Morgan, county coroner, who investigated the accident, announced that the mishap was apparently caused by the accident victim’s suffering a heart attack. Mr. Blythe was a son of the late Archie and Keaton Beale Blythe of Southampton County and husband of Mrs. Sweetie Lee Blythe, who survives him. He was a member of Union Congregational Christian Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Edgar, Charles Morris and Cary Hinson Blythe of Franklin; nine daughters, Mrs. Percy Harrison and Mrs. A.P. Richardson of Norfolk, Mrs. R.C. Wilson and Mrs. C.D. Graham of Portsmouth, Mrs. W.L. Bass of Courtland, and Mrs. G.C. Overby, Mrs. R.E. Hollowell and Misses Shirley and Doris Blythe of Franklin; a brother, Hunter Blythe of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. J.G. Joyner and Miss Effie Blythe of Franklin; and sixteen grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Wednesday) at two o’clock at Union Christian Church, with the pastor, Rev. R.E. Brittle, officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
