All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EMMETT McKINLEY BLYTHE Emmett McKinley Blythe, age 53, well known and lifelong resident of Southampton County, died at his home in Sedley Tuesday night, March 28, after an extended illness. He was the son of the late William and Nancy Cobb Blythe of this county. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Florence Lankford Blythe, five sons, Otis Blythe of the Franklin community; Ashby Blythe, serving with the armed forces overseas; twin sons, Sherman and Therman Blythe; Morgan Blythe and one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of Sedley; five brothers, H.A. and C. C. Blythe of Franklin, T.A. Blythe of Sedley, T.J. Blythe of Zuni, and B.F. Blythe of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. P.L. Travis of Richmond, Mrs. G.W. Wyatt of Roanoke, and Mrs. J.J. Bradshaw of Franklin; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Friends Church in Sedley by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson and Rev. N.B. Blackman. Miss Ethel Fenimore and Mrs. J.D. Owen sang "Where We’ll Never Grow Old" and the choir sang "Haven of Rest." The pallbearers were J.D. Owen, J.E. McClenny, J.L. Pond, Marshall Brock, S.C. Turner, J.M. Johnson, Billie Mulder and L.L. Poole. Burial was in the family cemetery near Sedley.
