All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NETTIE GERTRUDE JOYNER BLYTHE Mrs. Nettie Gertrude Joyner Blythe, well known and greatly loved resident of the Franklin-Hunterdale community, died of a heart attack on Saturday morning, May 22, her 66th birthday, and at the place where she was born. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas Wilson and Crissie Beaton Joyner of Southampton County, and a member of the Union Christian Church, in which she served faithfully for many years. She was also a member of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the church. Mrs. Blythe is survived by her husband, James Robert Blythe, whom she married forty-eight years ago; six daughters, Mrs. Kate B. Harrison, Mrs. Graham Atkins and Mrs. Herman Cobb of Franklin, Mrs. Claude Dunn of Yale, Mrs. J.D. Harrison of Norfolk, and Mrs. Morris Clements of Amelia; six sons, Claude Wilson Blythe of Richmond, Bernard, Percy, Herman, Ashby and Harwood Blythe of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Jim Blythe, and a half sister, Mrs. Tony Cobb, both of Franklin; two brothers, J.G. Joyner and Asa Joyner, and a half- brother, Dan Blythe, of Franklin; and thirteen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at four o’clock at the Union Christian Church by Rev. R.E. Brittle, a former pastor, and Rev. B.H. Watkins. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being J.G. Joyner, Jr., J.G. Cobb, Emerson Blythe, Shelton Cobb, Stafford Blythe, Elmer Blythe, Morris Blythe and Edgar Blythe.
