GRACE KNIGHT BLAND

   BOYKINS - A funeral service for Mrs. Grace Knight Bland was conducted 
Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Boykins Methodist Church by the Rev. Daniel K. Ivey, 
pastor and the Rev. Ben B. Ussery of Boykins Baptist Church.  Burial was in 
Beechwood cemetery with McDowell Funeral Home in charge.

   Pallbearers were Lewis Knight, R.C. Knight, L.P. Clary Jr., Turner 
Lassiter, Hassell Lassiter, Paul Camp Marks, David Sykes and Robert Poland.

   Mrs. Bland, 79, died in her home Monday at 2 a.m. after a short illness.

   A lifelong resident of Southampton County, she was the widow of Dr. James 
Moncure Bland and a daughter of Alexander and Mrs. Katherine Carr Knight.

   She was a life member of Boykins Methodist Church and a life member of its 
Women’s Society of Christian Service and Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

   She also was a charter member and first president of Boykins Woman’s Club.

   Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Roy A. Lassiter of Boykins, and three 
grandchildren, a granddaughter, Miss Katherine Lou Lassiter; two grandsons 
James Bland Lassiter and Roy Allan Lassiter Jr.
