Ballard, died Saturday afternoon, September 3, at "Happy Landing" the home of her son, W. Marion Ballard, on the Franklin-Courtland Boulevard. At the time of her death she was in her 94th year. Mrs. Ballard was born near Carrsville on December 12, 1865, the daughter of the late James and Caroline Lester Vaughan of Isle of Wight County. She was the oldest member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, having joined the church in childhood. After having lived in Norfolk for 17 years, Mrs. Ballard moved to Franklin 10 years ago to make her home with her son and daughter-in-law. Besides her son, W. Marion Ballard, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites for Mrs. Ballard were conducted Monday afternoon at four o’clock at the late residence. Rev. E.C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and Rev. Randolph Gregory, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, officiated; and Rev. J. Felix Arnold of Enfield, N.C., sang two selections that were favorites of the deceased. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Joseph L. Ballard, Conrad York, J. Vaughan Beale, Andrew Jenkins, Roy Carr, Jr., Vaughan Spivey, James Boone and Joe E. Ballard. Mary "Mollie" Rebecca (VAUGHAN; Mrs. William H.)
