Harry Lee Bain, Sr., age 84, of Capron Va. Died October 30, 1976 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bain, a lifelong resident of Capron was a businessman, banker, and partner of L.J. Bain & Son. He attended Randolph-Macon Academy and was graduated from Randolph-Macon College. He was a member of the Capron Ruritan Club, a veteran of World War I, and a past member of Capron Town Council. He served as president of the Bank of Capron, president and chairman of the Board of Directors of Dixie Guano Co. of Suffolk, and chairman of the Board of Stewards of Capron of Capron Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Susie Grant Bain of Capron; two daughters, Mrs. Robert W. Day and Mrs. Charles F. Heiner, both of Richmond; one son, H. Lee Bain, Jr. of Capron; one sister, Mrs. Elliott Richardson of Urbanna; one brother, J. Franklin Bain of Albany, GA,; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Capron Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Murphy officiating. Interment in Capron Cemetery. The remains rest at Echols Funeral Home, Emporia. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Capron Methodist Church or Capron Rescue Squad. ****************************************************************************** HARRY LEE BAIN HARRY L. BAIN SR. OF CAPRON DIES CAPRON - Harry Lee Bain Sr. a banker and businessman, died Saturday in a Southampton hospital. He was 84 years old. Mr. Bain operated a mercantile store here for more than 50 years, was president of the Bank of Capron for 15 years before its merger into the Virginia National Bank, and was president and chairman of the board of Dixie Guano Co. , a fertilizer distributorship in Suffolk, until his retirement in 1973. A native of Capron, Mr. Bain attended Randolph-Macon Academy and was graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy in Ashland in 1912. He taught school for several years before serving overseas during World War I. After the war, he joined his father, L.J. Bain, in operating a store in Capron. After his father’s death in 1935, Mr. Bain continued managing the store until his death. He served as a member of Capron’s town council in the 1930s and was former chairman of the board of stewards of Capron Methodist Club. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club. Mr. Bain is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie Grant Bain, and a son, H. Lee Bain Jr., both of Capron; two daughters, Mrs. Robert W. Day and Mrs. Charles F. Heiner, both of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. Elliott Richards of Urbanna, and a brother, J. Franklin Bain of Albany, Ga. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Capron Methodist Church with burial in Capron Church Cemetery. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made either to Capron Methodist Church or to the Capron Rescue Squad.
