BAIN L.J. Bain, prominent Capron citizen, former member of the Virginia General Assembly and Supervisor, died at his home in Capron Sunday, April 28. Mr. Bain had been in failing health for several years, but was able to be at his place of business on Saturday and retired that night apparently in his usual health, dying during the night. Lee John Bain was the son of the late Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Piland Bain and Franklin Lemuel Bain. He was born January 20, 1859, in Wakefield, Va., where he lived until young manhood. On June 12, 1890, he was married to Miss Agnes Pond of Wakefield and the next year they moved to Capron, then a little station on the new Atlantic and Danville Railroad. Of these few pioneer families only one man survives. Mr. Bain was a devoted husband and father and his was a hospital and religious home. All the members of this family have taken active part in the work of Capron Methodist Church in which Mr. Bain had served as a member of the board of stewards, of the board of trustees and as Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was a successful business man and shared his prosperity with his church and community, ever using his means and influence for the cause of prohibition. L.J. Bain was one of the leading merchants of Capron and the largest buyer of peanuts in his community. He had served not only his home town but also his county in several responsible capacities. He was one of the founders and a former director of the Bank of Capron and was for many years, until failing health caused him to resign last Fall, vice president of the Merchants and Farmers Bank of Franklin. He has served acceptably on the Board of Supervisors of Southampton County and as representative in the General Assembly of Virginia. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. S.E. Richardson, Jr., of Capron; two sons, H.L. Bain, who was associated with his father in business, and J. Franklin Bain of Albany, Ga.,; by four grandchildren; by one sister, Miss Sallie Bain of Wakefield, and two brothers, Thos. L. Bain of Ivor and Frank B. Bain of Wakefield. Grant, a former pastor and Rev. L.F. Callahan of Wakefield. Mr. and Mrs. L.W. McGrath, Mrs. W.S. Bell and Mrs. C.G. Johnson sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were: Dr. James A. Grizzard, V.S. Pittman, G.A. Lankford, J.E. Fox, P.B. Edwards, Jr., David Bell, W.D. Reese and D.D. Barham.
