All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RAY ALLEN BUNN BOYKINS - Funeral services for Ray Allen Bunn, 77, who died at a Norfolk hospital Monday evening after a brief illness, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Boykins United Methodist Church, with his pastor the Rev. William Hudson officiating and assisted by the Rev. C.B. King Jr. of Courtland. A native of Southampton County, Bunn was the husband of Mrs. Rosalie Edwards Bunn of Boykins, and a son of John Nathaniel* and Mrs. Laura Porter Bunn. He was a fertilizer salesman and a peanut buyer in addition to his farming interests. He also was a member of the Boykins United Methodist Church, a member of its administrative board and taught in its Sunday school for many years. He also was a member of the Boykins Town Council and was presently serving his 7th term of office. During several of the terms he served as Vice Mayor. He also was a past president and a charter member of the Boykins Lions Club and the Branchville Ruritan Club. Surviving Bunn in addition to his wife is one daughter, Mrs. Marguerite B. Holcombe of Courtland, one grandson Allen C. Story of Courtland, 3 brothers: Jack C. Bunn Sr., and Bennie L. Bunn both of Newsoms, and Edward D. Bunn of Baltimore, Md., six sisters: Mrs. Fannie Spain of Norfolk, Mrs. Ethel Saunders of Franklin, Mrs. Ruby Fowler of Boykins, Mrs. Gladys Shaw, Mrs. Evelyn Ferrell, and Mrs. Bernice Decker all of Chesapeake. Burial was in the Beechwood Cemetery Boykins, with the following pallbearers J.C. Bunn Jr., Braxton Bunn, J. David Sykes, J.W. Cutchins, Ocie H. Bland, John M. Britt, Mallory Ferrell Jr., Aubrey Woodard, E. Beale Carter, Jr. McDowell Funeral Home, Boykins was in charge of arrangements.
