Born Feb. 15, 1910, in Orange, Va., he was a son of the late Sheriff William C. and Lilly Corbett Bond. He was the retired owner of Courtland Dry Cleaners; member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; past grand master of the IOOF of Virginia; charter member and oldest member of the Courtland Fire Department; past member of the Courtland Ruritan Club; past scout master of Courtland Troop 211; member of Courtland Lodge No. 85 AF & AM and a past master. He had served on the Courtland Town Council and as Mayor of Courtland for two terms. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Hattie Simmons Bond; two sons, Edward O. Bond and his wife, Lynda, and Carl A. Bond and his wife, Cynthia; four granddaughters, Karen Bond, Elizabeth Bond Graff, Amy Herold and Suzan Bond; and five great-grandsons. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Robert J. Parks officiating. Burial with Masonic Rights will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 449, Courtland , VA or Courtland United Methodist Church, 22416 Main St., Courtland, VA 23837.
