Banty was a lifelong resident of Southampton County, a member of the Clarksbury Methodist Church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He is survived by his wife Mary Pope Banty; one daughter, Mrs. L.W. Tuglisi of Hampton; one son, David T. Banty of Capron; one brother, Maynard Banty of Boykins; half-brother, Vernon Banty of Emporia; half-sisters, Mrs. Ossie Smith of Hampton and Mrs. Minnie Carter of Williamsburg; and six grandchildren. Services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Echols Funeral Home, Emporia. Burial was in the Capron cemetery. Pallbearers were R.E. Ricks, Sr., Willie Ivey, Livis Williams, Clifton Williams, Paul Kirkland, Ira Barham, Joe Brinkley and Irvin Baker.
