All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALWYN EARL BRIGGS ALWYN BRIGGS DIES AT HOME IN SEBRELL Alwyn Earl Briggs, 61, died at his home in Sebrell at 10:20 o'clock Wednesday night, March 18, after a long illness. A member of the Sebrell Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Briggs and Maria Louise Boothe Briggs of this county. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janie Howell Briggs of Sebrell; two daughters, Mrs. Louise B. Childress of Norfolk and Mrs. Antionette B. Eaton of Falls Church; two sons, A.E. Briggs, Jr. and William H. Briggs of Newport news; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lannie B. Gardner of Suffolk; two brothers, B.B. Briggs of Suffolk and Garland B. Briggs of Port Washington, N.Y.; a niece, Miss Martha Wrenn Briggs of Port Washington, N.Y.; and a nephew, Dr. Henry L. Gardner, Jr., of Franklin. Services will be conducted at the grave in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, this (Friday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by Rev. Otis L. Gilliam, pastor of the Sebrell Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. John M. Gessell, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland. Pallbearers will be Charles Bailey, S.N. Cobb, Beamon Davis, Stanley English, J.H. Gray, Jr., E.L. Marks, Jr., Carroll Vaughan and W.N. Whitehead.
