Leland Fleetwood of this town, uncle of the Brooks boy, was notified of his death by wire Saturday. He had been in the service for some time and was with the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore before enlisting in the armed services. For several years his parents have been living in Bath, N.C., and he is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Brooks Tankard, of that town. It was not possible to secure other particulars of the death of this young man. ****************************************************************************** LELAND FLEETWOOD BROOKS YOUTHFUL SOLDIER, KILLED IN 1944, IS LAID TO REST HERE The remains of T-4 Leland Fleetwood Brooks, AUS, who was killed while guarding a road leading into Nancy, France, on September 7, 1944, found a final resting place in the town of his birth on Wednesday afternoon of this week, when they were re-interred in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
