BERTHA CAROLINE "CARRIE" BURGESS [MURFEE] 

  COURTLAND, VA. - Oct.  30 - Funeral services for Mrs. Caroline Burgess, who 
died Saturday will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Vincent Grove Methodist 
Church at the graveside by the Rev. William W. Stennell, pastor of Capron 
Baptist Church, and the Rev. David Willis, pastor of the Capron Methodist 
Church.


Bertha Caroline "Carrie" BURGESS [MURFEE*], 
Southampton Co. native, d. 29 Oct 1955, near Courtland, age circa 85*, 
interred in Vincent's Grove Methodist Church Cemetery**, 31 Oct 1955, 
"The Virginian-Pilot" (Norfolk, VA), Oct. 30, 1955 

**Her mother, Sallie (DRAKE) BURGESS, is also buried there.

The 1900 Census (Boykins, e.d. 57, p. 19A) gives Carrie Burgess, single, 
   b. Jan 1874 Va.; enumerated w/ her widowed ma; 
   Carrie's sons George S. & John D. Burgess are ascribed to her mother.
