Holland and Sons Funeral Home for Miss Elsie Blanche Burgess, 56, of Rt. 1, Box 37, Courtland. Services were led by Rev. Harold Lewis & Rev. Stanley Burgess. Pallbearers were Ed Blythe, Sidney Newsome, Lloyd Rountree, Hecktor Baker, Howard Hancock, and Ashley Lankford. Miss Burgess died Thursday Nov. 16 morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A lifelong resident of the area, she was the daughter of Mrs. Margaret Coggsdale Burgess and the late Walter Jefferson Burgess. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Besides her mother, surviving are one sister, Mrs. James H. Lee Jr. and one brother, Claude C. Burgess, both of Courtland; and one niece, Claudine B. Hines, and three nephews, James H. Lee 3rd, Donald J. Lee, Howard J. Burgess. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.
