GHOLIE SEWARD BURGESS

Gholie S. Burgess, 85, of Rt. 1, Courtland, died Tuesday, June 17, 1980.  He 
was the husband of the late Mrs. Lizzie Newsome Burgess and a native of 
Southampton County.  He was a retired lumberman and farmer; he was a stewart 
and former secretary of Vincent's Grove Methodist Church.  Survivors include 
five daughters, Miss Helen B. Burgess, of the home, Mrs. Sally Frances Francis 
of Hampton, Va., Mrs. Swann Bradshaw of Courtland, Mrs. Ann B. Davis of 
Chester, Mrs. Carolyn Arnsberger of Youngstown, Ohio, seven sons, James W. 
Burgess, Earl W. Burgess, G McCoy Burgess, all of Sedley, Va., Wayne T. 
Burgess and Lloyd M. Burgess, both of Capron, Va., Raymond N. Burgess of 
Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers George G. Burgess Sr. of Franklin, John D. 
Burgess of Courtland; twenty-eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.  A 
funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin 
by the Rev. Van Cash.  Burial will be in Capron Cemetery.  The family suggest 
memorial be made to Vincent's Grove Methodist Church or Capron Rescue Squad.
