HERBERT GASTON BURGESS

   MURFREESBORO, N.C. - A graveside funeral service for Herbert Gaston 
Burgess was conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Riverside Cemetery by the 
Rev. Harry Bunch of Newsoms Baptist Church. W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral 
was in charge.

   Pallbearers were Robert Grizzard, Adolph Blythe, Robert Burgess, J.T. 
Burgess, Raymond Jones and William Floyd Burgess.

   Burgess, 65, died early Wednesday in Southampton Memorial Hospital, 
Franklin, Va., after a long illness.

   A native of Northampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Gladys Anne 
Brett Burgess and a son of Levie Moore and Mrs. Lucy Van Burgess.

   He was for 40 years a weaver at Riverside Manufacturing Co. and later 
Georgia-Pacific Co.

   He was a member of Conway Baptist Church.

   Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary B. Drake of 
Newsoms, Va., and Mrs. Ramona B. Lewter of Winston-Salem; a son, James 
Herbert Burgess of Franklin; five sisters, Mrs. William Blythe and Mrs. 
Norman Edwards of Franklin, Mrs. Wiley Grizzard of Murfreesboro, Mrs. Rebie 
Little of Emporia, Va., and Mrs. Harvey Jones of Richmond, Va.; four brothers, 
Keith Burgess of Winton, Ruben Burgess of Richmond, and Levi E. Burgess and 
Floyd Burgess of Conway; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
