MARIAH ELIZABETH NEWSOME BURGESS

   Courtland - A funeral service for Mrs. Lizzie Newsome Burgess, 79, was held 
Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin by the Rev. Van E. Cash. 
Burial was in Capron Cemetery.

   She died Friday in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.

   A native of Northampton County, N.C., she was the wife of Gholie S. 
Burgess.  She was a member of Vincents Grove United Methodist Church.

   Survivors also include five daughters, Miss Helen B. Burgess of the home, 
Mrs. Gilbert Francis of Hampton, Mrs. Thomas I. Bradshaw of Courtland, Mrs. 
Wayne Davis of Chester and Mrs. Jerry Arnsberger of Youngstown, Ohio; seven 
sons, James W. Burgess, Earl W. Burgess and G. McCoy Burgess of Sedley, Wayne 
T. Burgess and Lloyd M. Burgess of Courtland, W. Emmerson Burgess of Capron 
and Raymond N. Burgess of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Floyd Wade 
and Mrs. Cecil Williams of Norfolk and Mrs. Jack D. Butler of Windsor; three 
brothers, Ronnie W. Newsome, Sidney C. Newsome and J.B. Newsome of Franklin; 
28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
