Burgess, age 44 years, died at her home in this community last Tuesday, July 12, after a lingering illness of many years. Mrs. Burgess lived a quiet Christian life and bore her illness with patience. She had been a member of Whitehead’s Methodist Church since girlhood. The funeral services, attended by a large number of relatives and friends, were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the home by a former Pastor, Rev. W.H. Riddick, her present Pastor, her former Pastor, Rev. A.K. Lambdin, being out of town. She is survived by her husband and three children, Joseph, Page and Julia Ann, one sister, Miss Etta Pope, of the community, and a brother, W.R. Pope, of Norfolk. The body was buried in the family plot on the home plantation and there were many beautiful floral designs. The body bearers were: P.B. Edwards of Joyner, E.M. Barkley of Boykins, Ashby Pope, Lewis Worrell, Charlie Pope and Mr. Kirkland. Pauline Susan* (POPE; Mrs. Reuben L.)
