Barkley of Boykins, was accidentally killed Tuesday morning, August 12, by being crushed between an automobile and a telephone pole. He was assisting his uncle in delivering apples and was riding on the running board of the car when it swerved into the pole crushing the boy's skull. He was killed almost instantly by the contact. Although just a lad Paul was kind, obedient and thoughtful of others. His quiet unassuming manner won for him a number of friends, old as well as young. He was quite popular with his playmates and was loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church and a regular attendant at Sunday school, Junior B.Y.P.U., and services of the church. Paul will be greatly missed by all those who came in contact with him. He is survived by his mother and father, one brother, Eppa Bland Barkley, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Barnes of Newsoms, besides numerous other relatives. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the home of his parents by Rev. Frank B. Handley of Boykins Baptist Church and Dr. Kelly White of Nashville. A special vocal selection was sung by Alwyn Howell of Suffolk. Interment was made in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins.
