FREDERICK N. BARKER, SR. 

   Frederick N. Barker, Sr., 54, prominent businessman and resident of 
Courtland, died late Monday night, August 25, on arrival at Raiford Memorial 
Hospital, his death resulting from a heart attack.

   The deceased was the son of the late Frederick G. and Dora Smithson Barker 
of Southampton County.  He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church, in 
which he served faithfully for many years, of Courtland Lodge No. 85, A. F. & 
A. M., and of Khedive Shrine Lodge, Norfolk. 

   Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Susie Parker Barker of Courtland; a daughter, 
Mrs. Erskine Fraser of Richmond; a son, Fred N. Barker Jr., of Courtland; a 
sister, Mrs. B.W. Eley of Zuni; and two nieces, Mrs. Kenneth Chubb of Hickory, 
N.C., and Miss Nancy Hall Barker of Richmond.

   Funeral services were held from the residence on Wednesday afternoon, at 
2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Otis L. Gilliam, pastor of the deceased, officiating. 

   Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland.  Active pallbearers were Lewis 
Bailey, T.B. Bell, Roy Edwards, Otis Joyner, C.B. Owen, W.H. Parker, T.C. 
Tyler and Emmett Vaughan.
