Byrd, wife of Mr. C. Oscar Byrd of this town, died at her home in North High Street Tuesday morning in her thirty-fifth year. She had been an invalid for the past two years, suffering intensely for the greater part of this time and bearing her afflictions with Christian fortitude and resignation. She was a useful and consistent member of the Franklin Christian Church for a number of years and a valuable member of the church choir. She was a native of Whaleyville, Nansemond County, and besides her husband is survived by one brother, Charles C. Gardner, of Portsmouth, and four sisters, Mrs. R.A. Harrell and Mrs. J.F. Jernigan of Suffolk, Mrs. C.C. Michael of Fairmont, N.C., and Miss Carrie Gardner of Whaleyville. Her father George Gardner of Whaleyville, preceded her to the grave about four months ago, her condition being so critical that she was never cognizant of his death. Funeral services were conducted from the Franklin Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by her pastor, Dr. C.H. Rowland, assisted by Dr. W.W. Staley of Suffolk and Rev. J.A. Chapman of High Street M.E. Church, interment following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were W.B. Simpson, Geo. R. Hayes, L.B. Norfleet, W.H. Norfleet, E.C. Beale, J.A. Williams, L.R.
