Hartwell Barrett Sr., 70, of Route 1, a retired farmer, died Dec. 22 in a Franklin hospital. Mr. Barrett, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, was a member of Burton’s Grove Christian Church, Wakefield. He was a charter member of the B & B Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Davis Barrett; a daughter, Betsey B. Kello of Courtland; a son, A. Hartwell Barrett, Jr. of Franklin; a sister Charlotte B. Clements of Windsor; two brothers, Al B. Barrett of Wakefield and Hubert E. Barrett of Petersburg and three grandsons. The graveside service was conducted Thursday in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Rescue Squad. A.
