Britt died suddenly Wednesday, June 26, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Willie Hill, of Boykins with whom he made his home. Mr. Britt was born in Hertford County near New Hope Church 73 years ago, the son of James Elbert Britt and Mrs. Martha Britt [sic*]. He married Miss Bettie Hill of Southampton County. To this union six children were born, three of whom survive him, Norman H. Britt of Baltimore, James T. Britt, Jr., of Boykins, and Linwood H. Britt of Suffolk. He is also survived by a brother, W.L. Britt of Como, N.C., three sisters, Mrs. Annie Whitley and Mrs. Henry Britt of Como, and Mrs. Willie Hill of Boykins, four grandchildren and a large family connection. He was taken from the Purviance Funeral Home to Barnes M.E. Church, of which he was a member, where the funeral was conducted by Rev. J.L. Kibler, assisted by Rev. F.B. Handley. The Barnes choir sang "Does Jesus Care?" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Pallbearers were his eight nephews. Interment was made in the family burying ground. Rather, his parents were James Elbert & Emma Jane (WHITLEY) BRETT. His father & step-mother are marked at the New Hope Church site, Como, Hertford Co., NC. (Find a Grave Mem. #81752855 & #81752834) His father (1834 - 1915) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. H, 41st VA Infantry. His step-mother (1855 - 1930) applied for a pension 28 Jun 1924 in Southampton Co. His father left will 23 Oct 1903, proved 16 Dec 1915.
