Funeral services for James Thomas Britt, Jr., 56, who died at his residence here in Boykins on Sunday morning, October 14, after a brief illness were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Boykins Methodist Church with Rev. William S. Ferguson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Ben B. Ussery, pastor of the Boykins Baptist Church, and Rev. N.B. Habel of Victoria, a former pastor of the Boykins Baptist Church. Music was furnished by the choirs of both churches who rendered the hymn "Guide Me, Oh Thou Great Jehovah." Mr. Britt was a lifelong resident of Southampton County being born near Statesville, but had made his home around Boykins for the past 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a very active member of the Boykins Methodist Church. His parents were the late James Thomas and Mrs. Betty Hill Britt. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Frances Powell of Boykins, and a number of nieces and nephews. Interment was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Active pallbearers were Edgar Weede, Dr. J.M. Bland, W.W. White, Jr., Lee Hill, Bynum Hill, H.G. Coleman, C.B. Rock, Jr., and James Woodard. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Young Men's Bible Class of the Boykins Methodist Church, of which he was a member, the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church and friends of the family.
