A native of Como, he was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Cook Brett, and a member of New Hope Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James H. Lee of Murfreesboro, N.C., Mrs. William T. Rhodes of Zuni, and Mrs. J.T. Sumner of Potecasi, N.C.; a son, William C. Brett of Handsom, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Harry W. Bunch. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9. H, 41st VA Infantry. His mother (1855 - 1930) applied for a pension 28 Jun 1924 in Southampton Co. His father left will 23 Oct 1903, proved 16 Dec 1915. (Hertford Co., NC, WB D:373-75) His parents are marked in the New Hope Church Site Historic Cemetery, near Como, Hertford Co., NC. His father ("1833 - 1915") also has a Confederate gravestone in a field just outside Como, NC.
