Mr. Byrd was a well-known citizen having moved to Franklin from Whaleyville, 26 years ago, and had been actively connected with High Street Methodist Church serving as steward. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 151 and held and number of important offices therein. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Elizabeth Parker of Nansemond County; eight children, two daughter, Mrs. C.P. Kreticson of Washington and Mrs. L.B. Holland of Franklin; six sons, Jesse Ray Byrd of Washington; Alfred Byrd of Murfreesboro, N.C.; C.O., S.E., R.E., and W. Curtis Byrd, of Franklin and eleven grandchildren; also a brother, W.H. Byrd of Suffolk, and three sisters, Mrs. H.J. Bennett, Mrs. Mariah Worrell and Mrs. J.T. Britton all of Nansemond County, Holy Neck community. Funeral services were conducted from the High Street M.E. Church Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by his Pastor, Rev. Roscoe Jones, with Masonic burial services. Active pallbearers were: W.T. Pace, E.C. Smith, J. Edward Moyler, N.C. Barbour, J.H. Boyd, Harry Steinhardt, Geo. H. Parker and G.G. Smith.
