All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LUTHER ELBERT BRETT Luther Elbert Brett, 65, a retired farmer of the Carrsville community and formerly a resident of Southampton County, died suddenly Tuesday morning, July 19, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Odell Nixon. The son of the late James Elbert and Mary Johnson Brett of Hertford County, N.C., he was a member of the Sunbeam Baptist Church. Besides Mrs. Nixon he is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Elmer Edwards of Handsom and Mrs. Effer Edwards of Courtland; a son, Elvin Brett of Memphis, Tenn; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Walter and Jimmy G. Brett of Como, N.C., Leo Brett of Zuni, and Hubert Brett of Holland; six sisters, Mrs. Rosa Hill of Boykins, Mrs. Eva Whitfield of Handsom, Mrs. Della Bowles and Mrs. Mary Story of Suffolk, Mrs. Blanche Hargraves of Capron, and Mrs. Beanie Williams of Gates, N.C.; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mr. Brett were held Thursday afternoon at three o’clock at the grave in the Newsoms cemetery, with Rev. R.L. Chadwick officiating. His step-mother (1855 - 1930) applied for a pension 28 Jun 1924 in Southampton Co. His father left will 23 Oct 1903, proved 16 Dec 1915.
