He was a native of Hertford County, N.C., and the husband of Mrs. Christie Whitley Brett. He was retired from Union Camp Corp. He was a member of Franklin Knights of Pythian Lodge 51. He was an Army veteran of World War I. Other survivors include two sons, Arthur R. Brett of Ashland and L.E. Brett, Jr. of Richmond; four sisters, Mrs. Thelma B. Britt and Miss Helen Brett of Murfreesboro, N.C., Mrs. Jennie Mae Williams of Windsor, and Mrs. Lucille Edwards of Franklin; five brothers, Walters A. Brett and Julian J. Brett of Murfreesboro, Dennis L. Brett of Franklin, Emmette C. Brett of Chesapeake; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in New Hope Methodist Church, Como, N.C. by Rev. Harry Bunch. Burial will be in Blackjack cemetery, Como, with Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro in charge. The family will meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
